I'm just curious, but why can't you get it on a flash drive or CD? Or maybe even a floppy?

What operating system is on the old laptop? If you already have a flash drive, you likely just need to download and install the mass storage driver. Then it will recognize the flash drive.

Do you know what version of windows is on it?

If not, right click on My Computer, and click on properties. It should display the version of windows that is installed.

You can go to your flash drive manufacturer's website and download their driver.

The problem with the USB cable is, unless you have the USB data transfer cable, it doesn't work.
