have laptop connected to base station. internet works
fine when plugged in but will not connect when using
wireless option any first suggestions

Broadly, get the PC close to the router (e.g. same room),
enable SSID broadcasts, disable WEP (on card and router,
and reenable it once everything else works), make sure
router and card are using same channel, same SSID, same WEP
key, key length, and key type. Also, make sure that you are
not being blocked by MAC filtering, and make your SSID
unique to avoid conflicts with nearby networks.

Sometimes it helps to assign a static IP to the PC (e.g.
192.168.2.2, mask 255.255.255.0, DNS and gateway
192.168.2.1) -- in this case change the router DHCP start
range to 192.168.2.3 on the LAN screen.
