Question: "How do I find (view) the clip board?

Answer: Think of the clipboard as an invisible entity. You cannot see it
directly. You can see its' contents indirectly by pasting the contents into
any programs window if that program has a paste option.

If you are using MS Word 2002, from the menubar, access | Edit | Office
Clipboard |. With MS Word 2002, you are able to handle multiple items to /
from the clipboard. These multiple items can be shared among various MS apps
such as MS Word, MS Excel and MS Access.

Not all applications / programs have the ability to access multiple items on
the clipboard. If you use MS Word 2002 to copy multiple items to the
clipboard then switch to NOTEPAD.EXE, Notepad will only be able to paste the
last item copied to the clipboard by MS Word 2002.

Anytime you use the paste command, the contents of the clipboard are made
available to the program from which you accessed the paste command.

If the contents of the clipboard originated from the program you are
currently using (ie: you used the cut or copy command which would have
caused something you had selected / highlighted to be copied into the
clipboard), then should you use the paste command, the contents of the
clipboard should be useable within that program.

Note: Anytime you use the cut command, although the selected data / item is
removed, a copy of the removed item is placed in the clipboard. If you use
the delete command, the selected data / item is removed without being copied
to the clipboard.

To ask, "Is there a program I can use to access the clipboard directly
without using the program which put the data there.", the answer is that you
can use any program which has a paste option to view the contents of the
clipboard.

However:

There are many different types of data which can be copied to the clipboard.
In order for a program to be able to process the data stored in the
clipboard, the data must be a type which that program is designed to use.

As an example, if you edit an audio file and use cut to remove a segment of
the audio, the cut segment will be copied to the clipboard. Should you try
to paste the contents of the clipboard into say MSPaint, it won't work
because the data is the wrong type. In some cases, if the data on the
clipboard isn't compatible with the program you are using, the paste option
won't be available until data compatible with that program is copied to the
clipboard.

I believe that in some of the earliest versions of the Windows O/S there may
have been a utility to view the clipboard contents. That isn't necessary
since any program having a paste command can extract the contents of the
clipboard. As to whether you can copy an item / data from within one
program, then past that data into another program, your ability to do so will
depend upon each program being able to process the same data type.

You can add a clipboard viewer to the control panel with this edit on
Kelly's site, line 130, "Add Clipboard to the Control Panel" at
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Read the info at the top of the page on how to run the edit.
