i found a mp3 and want to get rid of all songs on it. when i try deleting a file(song) it tells me that its write protected and that i need to remove it before i can delet the song

If it has a standard mini-USB socket try connecting to a PC (you may have to change the connection mode in the player so that it appears to the PC as an external drive). Once PC connected you should be able to access existing tracks and remove them and load your own.

Of course, if the model is a recognised brand, have a look for a manual online.
