Does hdtv antenna work with basic cable

Hello, I read that I can save money on cable if I get a HDTV antenna I have a HDTV currently hooked up to cable can I get channels if i cut off cable and use an antenna?

If your TV has an ATSC tuner built in you can connect an antenna and get the over the air channels available in your area. How many channels you get will vary based on the exact location and type of antenna. Digital signals don't get snowy like the old analog TV when they get weak, they just aren't received so I suggest you try it before cutting off your cable service.
