my buddy has a 55" widescreen lcd. does sticking my nose up to my 21" monitor amount to the same thing? it sounds funny but i can only think of a couple reasons....please validate my desire to spend a lot of money on a big tv.

Generally anything over 24" you lose pixels as you increase which results in less visual details.
Dell's 24" LCD is 1920x1200 while most top end 55" screens do 1366x768 or something similar.]
So in essence, viewing up close on Dell's 24" screen you view more detail and a larger scene than on a top end 55" screen.

And the sign says "You got to have a membership card to get inside" Huh
So I got me a pen and paper And I made up my own little sign

i just want to quantify the reasons for moving up in size and price...or why bigger is automatically better.

small screens feel claustrophobic to me (remember 15" monitors? you sat very close and couldnt move around). there is also less eye strain the farther away you can move from the screen. muscles in and around your eye can relax.
thats two reasons. im not sure they justify the expense of some of the bigger monitors right now.

It may come down to whether you want to do your computing from a desk or from the couch.

From the couch, it's a different kind of computing. Use a wireless keyboard and mouse. Flip to and from your various video sources like one or more game consoles, DVD player, or cable or satelite STB.

Or, do the Picture in a Picture with two or more video souces.

Of course, you can always put a high definition TV tuner inside the box, and run Windows Media Center Edition in wide screen.

Or, minimize the Windows Media Center window, and websurf with Windows XP, which is underneath.

It's a different kind of computing, as I said.
Edited by BruxBox on 10/24/05 06:09 PM.
