Dell Dimension 8110

My friends Dell Dimension 8110 just crashed, and now nothing will run or open. No .exe works I'm not sure if it's a virus or what. I've never had a dell and only heard bad things, will any old Windows XP home edition work if i tried to reinstall the OS?

Try booting into safe mode. If it's a virus, your friend should be able to clean it up there using malwarebytes.
