Right now, I'm using an old 19 inch, square Viewsonic monitor, 8 ms response time. I'm a very frugal person. I didn't replace my 17 inch Samsung CRT, lasted at least fifteen years, until it broke. I've had this ViewSonic panel for about five or six years, and it shows no hint of failure. But I want (desire, lust after) a new 22 or 24 inch display.
So I'm trying to justify it, in my head, by looking at current prices. Panels sizes that were $300, two years ago are now significantly less than $200. There is a 22 inch Acer monitor that I can pick up for $139, with rebates. Soyo has a 24 inch monitor that Office Max, occasionally has on sale, for $219. The last time, was a sale two weeks ago.
It just seems to me that prices couldn't go any lower and now would be a good time to upgrade. On the other hand, I felt the same way about memory and look where those prices have gone.
