Formatting new hard drive for Dell Dimension 5150C using Windows7

Hello,
The hard drive in my Dell Dimension 5150C has failed and I am rplacing it with a Seagate OEM 500gb Barracuda 7200. Can I just insert the new drive and then run a Windows7 installation CD?

Dells can sometimes have some quirks. I've seen some Dells with an OS install mode, that needs to be enabled.

But yes, you should be able to do it without issue. You'll need to use the boot menu to boot off of the DVD drive to start the format/install process.

You might have to go into the disc management sometimes to get it recognized on a dell!

You can't do that without having an OS already installed. If the current drive has failed, that's not an option.

You have? I've never seen that myself unless you're talking about Dells well before I started working with them (3 and a half years ago). I'm interested where you've seen this and this is in no way me criticising you... It's just my curiosity kicking in!

The last one I saw it on, was a Dimension 3000.
