Western Digital WD800

Hi there,

I bought 4 WD800JB's two years ago for a computer I was building. One was DOA and I've lost 2 since -- one this morning. The two that I've lost have been in a RAID 1 array (on an Gigabyte 8KNXP mobo). Now three drive failures in two years sounds high for Western Digital drives. Is RAID particularly hard on them? Or, is there possibly something else wrong in my computer that is hurting the drives?

This one is out of warranty, so I'm thinking about replacing both RAID drives with a pair of SATA drives.

Thanks for your help,
Steve

  1. That does seem high...I wonder if they are overheating?
