I currently have the Lite-On SOHW-832s and I've noticed that lately I seem to be getting more and more CRC errors. At first I thought it was a software or driver conflict so I removed the drive and then reinstalled it to no avail. I put my dvd I was trying to back up into my Grandpa's computer and it was able to back up just fine, he has the Pioneer DVDr-109b. I was thinking about getting the same drive.

How is the pioneer drive? I would like to get some input from other owners. Is there any other drives that would give me good performance and disk compatability? I am looking to spend around $50. Links or sites would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

<A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827129161" target="_new">Pioneer</A>
<A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827101639" target="_new">BenQ</A>

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

that's not the drive buddy.

CRC errors.. hmm lets see i take it your trying to "BACKUP" a REAL dvd??????

yep that sounds like your case buddy. Your obviously new to the dvd backup game so let me give you a few tips... all these newer dvds are getting a bunch of new protections on them so the newer ones are going to give you a problem.

THG doesn't like talking about this stuff hear so if you want you can PM me. But if your trying to back up your original dvds.. you need to get this software called ANYDVD + dvdShrink and you will be set. dvd Decryptor also just for a nice backup tool. both are free except anyDVD.... anydvd is a program you just run real quick and it detects all the protection on the dvd, and then once you run it, it allows dvd shrink to run properly and get past that protection.

pm me for more info if you want

I'll get the NEC I had 2 of these drives 3510 and 3520 and currently own another 3520. The 3540 burns a little faster on some formats.
I also have a Benq but I only use it when I burn lightscribe CDs/DVDs.

I already use those programs and both are updated, but I am still getting the CRC errors. The last movie I tried to back up wouldn't even play in my DVD drive, but it would play on my home DVD player. This is just another reason I'm thinking that the drive is causing the problem.
