Hello, as mentioned in my previous post, I decided to get the HP Envy 17. However, it turns out that customized HP laptop does not ship to Canada :pfff: So the only solution I am left with is to either get the Canadian version (Envy 17-1090ca) or get my friend to get the Hong Kong version (Envy 17-1018tx)

The problem is, though, that it would be much simpler and cheaper to buy my local version (1090ca), but it has a weaker processor, the i7-720QM, Windows 7 Home Premium and the thing I am most concerned of, the screen, which is not a Full HD 1080p screen but a 900p HD+ screen. However, to look at the bright side, the Canadian version does feature a slot-loading Blu-ray drive, 8GB RAM, and 1TB 7200 RPM Dual HDD SATA Drive.

With the Hong Kong version (1018tx), not released yet, features the best spec available from HP, a i7-840QM, Windows 7 Professional, 8GB RAM etc. Nevertheless, the price will be more significant.

Detail specs follows:

HP Envy 17-1090ca (Canada version)
Windows 7 Home Premium
Intel Core i7-720QM (1.6GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) w/ Turbo Boost up to 2.8GHz
8GB DDR3 RAM
1TB 7200RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (500GB x 2)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 w/1GB GDDR5 VRAM
17.3" HD+ HP BrightView Infinity LED Display (1600 x 900)
Blu-ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support

Price: $1,779.99 CAD (Before 13% Tax)
Approx. $1,718.23 USD

HP Envy 17-1080tx (Hong Kong version)
Windows 7 Professional
Intel Core i7-840QM (1.86GHz, 8MB L3 Cache) w/ Turbo Boost up to 3.2GHz
8GB DDR3 RAM
1TB 7200RPM SATA Dual Hard Drive (500GB x 2)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850 w/1GB GDDR5 VRAM
17.3" Full HD HP Ultra BrightView Infinity LED Display (1920 x 1080)
Blu-ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support

Price: $18,980 HKD (Suggest Price, NOT Official)
Approx. $2,526.80 CAD
Approx. $2,439.12 USD

The Bold ones are the differences between the two versions. To me, the 1080p screen is quite important, but after reconsidering the prices, I am not sure if it is really worth the money...

So what's left is the processor, is the i7-840QM really worth the buck over the i7-720QM?
Which one would you have choose?

And by the way, yes, I will be using this laptop for gaming, such as, Bad Company 2, COD, soon to release Need For Speed Hot Pursuit, etc. But I will also be using this laptop for some Photoshop-ing, multitasking (for sure, quite alot actually)

Please feel free to give any opinion and comment as they are always welcomed ;)

LOL.
I am sure that you are facing a dilemma of choosing which one is the best choice for you. ;)

I am a local resident of HK,I also have noticed the brand new models of HP Envy series. And I am really interested in it,just like you. :) As the new Envy 17 models are really really attractive to me!

The Envy 17 has two models available in HK.
One is Envy 17-1013TX , and the other is Envy 17-1018TX,which is the better version.

Here are the specifications of both versions:

HP Envy 17-1013TX:
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Intel Core i7-720QM(1.6GHz)
8GB DDR3
17.3"Full HD HP Ultra BrightView Infinity LED(1,920 x 1080)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850(1GB DDR3)
640GB SATA 7200rpm(320GB + 320GB)
Slot-in Blu-ray ROM
6-cell battery

HP Envy 17-1018TX:
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Intel Core i7-840QM(1.86GHz)
8GB DDR3
17.3"Full HD HP Ultra BrightView Infinity LED(1,920 x 1080)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5850(1GB DDR5)
1TB SATA 7200rpm(500GB + 500GB)
Slot-in Blu-ray ROM
6-cell battery

And the prises are around $15,980(Envy 17-1013TX)/ $18,980(Envy 17-1018TX)in HK dollars.

You said that the full HD screen is the most important thing for you,so I would like to recommend the 1013TX to you, which is with full HD screen and the prise is lower than the 1018TX.

And I think the processors of both versions are not so apparent in difference of efficiency. However,as a perfect-pursuing person,I would like to choose the 1018TX as the perfect choice.Although I don't have enough money to bring it to home(lol),it is still my perfect choice.lol

No matter what,it's all up to you.
And you have the right to ignore my bullshxt. LOL

One more thing, please forget the Canadian version, that version is not worth choosing.(I think.)
Because that version with Blu-ray ROM but without full HD screen, seriously,it's a joke. lol

By the way,you said you have friend(s) in HK,that makes me think that whether you are a HongKonger.

I hope the above things can help you to make a decision.^^

And also hope you can understand my poor English. LOL
