I am about to add a 250GB Seagate HDD to my system, and I am looking for some advice.

I have a 120GB WD as my boot drive. I have two 80GB Maxtor HDDs set up in a RAID0 for video editing, etc. And to free up my RAID0 that is way too full most of the time, I have bought this Seagate 250GB HDD to copy all of my movies, large files, etc. to.

My questions are mostly about making a partition on this new drive for a scratch disk for Adobe programs like premere and photo shop. Also, should I move my swap file to this disk and stop all access to my boot disk or to my RAID0. Should a make a small partition on this new HDD for these purposes? How big should that partitiojn be?

I really want to free up my RAID0, reformat it, and leave it clean for projects...

Primarily, my system is still a gaming computer...

It is the top computer listed in my sig...

The swap file will probably work best if assigned to the first partition created on a drive that occupies a channel by itself. My swap file partition is 4gb...double the fixed size I've set it to.

Im personally not a big fan of partition, I mainly dont see the point when running multiple HD's.
But if you want to do so, dont make them too small because even if some programs cand on the fly now, its still a hassle to resize your partition if it gets too small for your needs.

As for the swap I suggest putting it on the non- OS hd, also set it too a fixed value (half the ram is enough but they recommand 1.5X the ram..)

I want to keep away from my two HDD Raid0, so this new 250GB HDD will be the only non OS drive... if using it as a disk for my swap file, scratch disk, and mass storage on it is the way to go without using a seperate partition for it is the way to go, then I am all for that... the only reason I would make a partition is to keep this swap file/scratch disk stuff away from my starage of DVDs, etc...

The advantage to using the first partition created on a disk for your swap file it that the swap file is contained in specifically allocated space on the outside of the platter which spins the fastest...

Good partitioning and imaging programs are a worthwhile investment if you are going to start using multiple disks and RAID configurations on your machine.
