Holy cow Rich I just had a weird experience with that .AVI movie!! First I watched then I wanted to actually download it because I have a friend in Texas that fly's model aircraft and wanted to email it to him or zip it and email it with my camera software.

The thing says save target and I select my downloads folder and it says download complete in 1 second ?

WTF I open the file download and play it yet again in Windows Media player and the download is complete and un corrupted ????????

I again right click and select save the file from your shortcut yet this time it says 5 plus minutes to download and it starts the download and runs as a normal download.
I stop the download because I already have it ponder WTF happened the first time I downloaded it.

I seriously got the whole 14 plus MB download the first time in IE in 1 second flat!!

Yes I do have high speed cable but seriously LOL

Jammy it was real and outstanding that is why I am emailing to my bud in Texas that fly's these things his pants are going to fall off and his jaw is going to hit the bricks he's standing on when he see's this footage.

Did you have audio on at the same time ? I can smell the kerosene it was burning.

yeah its becuz its in your temp internet files man. you downloaded to see it and when you rightclick and save as it just pulls it from your temp files,

try any download like that.

1. Notice that although the helicopter is moving at extreme speeds and in different directions the camera man manages to keep the helicopter in view at all times. This would be impossible unless A) It is computer generated or B) The cameraman knew exactly what the pilot was going to do.

2. As I understand it helicopter work by creating lower pressure above the blades than below them, If you turn a helicopter upside down it pulls itself downwards.

3. It looks computer generated.

4. Nothing of that size can move like that.

Yes you are right but...... I have configured Windows Media Player not to cache or to save viewed material....Obviously there is still some caching going on in the background I have no software trigger control over........I realized it right after I posted.

I find it annoying that my temp files are still so open to the net even when I take great pains to lock them down, at least to the extent that the net still functions. I even have auto complete disabled!!

yeah they always have a way to get you with temps man, unfortunately.

i keep my internet cahce to 1mb and history to 1 day but yeah there still there lol.

Jammy all aircraft since late WWII have had what is called variable pitch propellers.

Basically there is a gear system in the base of each propeller blade that can turn the blade 180 deg in either direction.

This variable pitch was needed by fighter aircraft so the blades could attack the air at different altitudes and still maintain a proper airflow over the blade so the engine can maintain horsepower.

If the plane is in a dive bombing run and you could not change the pitch on the propeller blades the engine would actually over speed and tear it out of the airframe or at thin altitudes if you could not tune the blades ability to attack the air at a different angle the plane would lose horsepower do to the blades free wheeling and the plane could not climb or maintain altitude.

Helicopters also have the ability just like a radial engine to vary the pitch of the blades. All new attack helicopters can maintain inverted flight for short periods of time since the advent of the computer to control flight surfaces millions of times a second.

However any human pilot would black out and crash trying to do what the model helicopter was doing the G forces would have turned the pilot into Jell-O.

Helicopter can change the pitch of each blade. This is how it flys inverted. As the rotor spins, the pitch changes to take maximum advantage of lift, and this one is configured to utilize this to fly inverted.

Its real.

in response to:

1. Notice that although the helicopter is moving at extreme speeds and in different directions the camera man manages to keep the helicopter in view at all times. This would be impossible unless A) It is computer generated or B) The cameraman knew exactly what the pilot was going to do.

C) possibly (B) most likely the camera person is used to this event and can anticipate the movements. plus he wasn't zoomed in all the time, so it's not that hard to follow.

2. As I understand it helicopter work by creating lower pressure above the blades than below them, If you turn a helicopter upside down it pulls itself downwards.

model helicopters can tilt the rotors past level. In other words, they can obtain upward or downward thrust, thus be able to fly upside down.

3. It looks computer generated.

no it doesn't.

4. Nothing of that size can move like that.

I've seen an rc plane that does 300+ knots (albeit for less than 5 minutes)

If you can ever convince yourself, it is a heck of a compliment to the pilot. His skills are so incredible, that it is unbelievable even when taped in entirety! It takes skill to fly one, but extreme skill to fly in such a manner as to believe it is fake!
That guy is awesome!

I still dont think its real, the way the helicopter moves just doesnt look right. I my experience nothing of that size accelerates and decelerates that fast.

2. That still doesnt explain how at one point he is vertical for about 6seconds moving forward and backward like a seesaw...he cant be greating lift there.

3. I think it does, the lighting looks far too clean.

4. Its not the speed I was talking about it was the way it changes direction so quickly.

Well, it's a real movie & a real pilot. Believe, I've competed in the Nationals in RC Soaring before. If you want to see flying like that, for a week straight, by all means go to the NATS in Muncie Ind. Here's a link to the competition schedule for next year. Here's the main page if you want to browse some more.

Look here & watch the videos of these planes. The Wayne Geffon vid. is flown in a hotel pool. Models now, can defy physics that real air craft can't. All the video's are good & it's called 3d flying.

Jet turbine models can do over 200 MPH. Talk about eye hand coordination. At 200 MPH, you have no friends.. [shrug]

Also, the power to weight ratio is a big factor in enabling this flight. Plus, if it was full size and a pilot was in there, they would blackout from the G's...
It's real, Igor...

Well I respect you a little more than RichPLS so I am more inclined to believe its real. +the links you gave me did show some pretty amazing flying. But the helicopter video jusgt seems beyond the laws of physics.

Reply to jammydodger

I wonder what would happen if you made one where the attack of the blades could be adjusted and if you had two sets of blades alternating, one symmetrical while increasing the angle of the opposite set. it also looks like he has some great stability assistance there. even one set of blades on something that light would probably work of you could adjust the angle of attack either direction

I'll tell you, it takes some real eye hand coordination & a hell of a computer radio to do all the mixing. The Pilot has to be able to control the mixing & use it to his advantage. My radio for my sail plane has a card dedicated to flying sail planes. I couldn't fly it without that level of radio. It sets up everything. It will also take a card for helicopters, to do all the mixing. So you can have a bunch of changes going on in the background & you just have to fly it.

Yes, these models now day can & do defy the laws of physics. They have become main stream in the military because of it. The vid I linked. Doing what's called a prop stall & backing down to put it's tail in the water. No plane in the world can do that. They can do a prop stall & when they start going backwards the plane has lost it lift on the air foil. they flip & dive toward the ground to get enough air going over the wings again to get lift, & then pull out of it. The power to weight ratio, allows it to happen in Modeling. Those planes weigh 11 oz., I believe & with the right amount of power & prop, they can hover all day.

I've seen some pretty awesome Pilots before & they can do things, I'll never be able to do. I'll tell you that falt out. This is more than likely one of the top RC Pilots in the world. He's also sponsored my many companies I would bet. If not,, he's in it for nothing & spending $1000's of $$$$!!!
