My Dell Inspiron D830 will only work under battery power while in safe mode. In regular mode the computer conks out immediately. Very annoying since the laptop works fine under AC power. I have purchased a new battery and the same problem occurs. Any ideas?

This is really quite strange.

If you load up a Linux live CD, does it do the same thing?

If it only occurs in safe mode, some piece of software is causing you trouble - reinstalling windows should resolve it, if it comes to that.

I agree that it is strange. Have not tried loading up with Linux... will give it a try. I think you are also correct about reinstalling Windows. I've tried updating drivers, but no luck. I guess I will just bite down on Windows 7.
