1.8" SSD on a iPod Classic?

Forum Home Audio : MP3 Players 1.8" SSD on a iPod Classic?

So, apparently the 1.8" HDD can be switched out...
I'm wondering, has anyone had the balls to put a 1.8" SSD in instead?
160GB stock HDD vs 128GB SSD (though almost $400 for 128GB 1.8" ones)...

Wondering what using the iPod as a external drive would be like then...

Register or log in to remove.

Having disassembled iPod Mini to replace hard disk with a Compact Flash memory card from a camera (which has an identical interface) I would think it would work in principal.

Problem is that the iPod seems to be engineerd to frustrate disassembly and I damaged mine irreparably in the process.

Won't buy another iPod and have switched to LG touchscreen player -- which uses solid state to start with -- so no hard drive to break.

Cool.

Too bad the PSP doesn't use a 1.8" drive... would just pik up one of the upcoming 320GB 1.8" drives and keep all my movies/games/music on there with room to spare...
