Me and my mate (on cable) have been toying with the idea of turning an old 486 box of his into a hardware firewall.
Reasons are:
-Because there are two NICs in his machine and sygate, LAN gaming means disabling one, swapping cables, etc each time.
-Blackice isn't the best
-Seemed like a bit of fun
So, can anyone start me off with some ideas of how to go about it? I was thinking, take the 486, install NT4Server, install blackice (for now, any better things out there?), set it up as the DNS, plug it into the cable modem and the hub and we're off!
But are there programs out there that would turn it into a 'proper' hardware firewall?
ps. i'd rather stay away from Linux, just because i don't know $*&t about it!
I never was that good with hardware theory
