WD or Seagate

I'm looking to get a WD 200GB 8mb cache SATA HDD. Someone on this forum suggested I check out the Seagate HDD with NCQ... I was just wondering what you guys think is best ...oh.. and what is NCQ and what does it do???? Maybe some advantages/disadvantages...

WD is rated #1 by many with seagate reallllly close!so almsot a tie IMO.

I personnaly have a 200gb seagate baraccuda 7200.8 w/ NCQ, my motherboard doesnt support NCQ though...

Native Command Queueing, it allows your HD to rearrange the command(read/write data) in a more effective way. Technically it reduce the head movement because all the command that should be executed in the same area are ordered in a more effective way.

Real world performance is almsot 0 right now, still a ncie feature to have for the future!

That link says that Seagate doesn't offer the NCQ drive in 200GB... so I think I'll stick witht the WD 200GB...thanks for the help!!

thats the 7200.7 now they have 7200.8(NCQ) and 7200.9(NCQ + SATAII, 300 MB/s..)

WD has 5, 3 and 1 year warranty, depending on models.

Maxtor has 3 year

Seagate has 5 year.

I was looking at a Maxtor DiamondMax 10 drive that has both NCQ and a 16mb cache. Tell me what you think.

Thats a really good drive, had good luck with MAxtor, one of them died but It was sandwiched between 2 other drive and it was at least 5 years old...

I have had very good luck with Maxtor SCSI and IDE drives. That new 16mb line looks good.
