You mean the SM player had no Rhinos? That seems harsh. The Avatar's
free status is part of the balance of the Eldar list, as much as any
of the points costs you have to pay for other units, so you're just
hampering yourself by not taking it.

I've got two back at home, but the new model is so much better.

Well anything is vulnerable for at least one blast marker, the Epic
faq
makes it explicit that AT fire can be directed at an infantry
formation to
give it blast markers.

Yes, but it can't cause extra blast markers by destroying units if
there aren't any vehicles there. Wraithlords certainly aren't the
liability Vypers can be, but they can be destroyed.

No he had rhinos, its not quite the same thing, the rhinos are included in
the cost of the unit but can be dropped for tactical reasons (garrison is
the only thing I can think of off hand with my limited knowledge and the
rules raise that) whereas the Avatar has the the whole it appears it
goes and its a standout potent leaderish unit sort of thing was genrally
agreed as being not right for us for a few more plays....we are currently
getting the ruleset organised...I think the Chaos army ditched something
similar but wasnt playing in that game so Im not 100% sure. Sure it
weakens the Eldar a little, but it allowed the novice and complete newbie
players (ie any and all of us at this stage) to concentrate on having a
game, rather than delving too much into huge details - which meant quicker
games, and more fun as we learn which is our primary aim, we'll get all
the rules in as we play more....I think we are going to go for the
Aircraft rules next time, and I'll probably pop an Avatar down in that
game.

Yup, the host needed a bit more positional care than simply line em up and
send em in. THere was one point where the Land Raiders targetted them
which could have been nasty, but 8 lascannon dice gave a single hit and
that got saved. The benefit of having them present was used in one pivotal
close combat, and they had used he brightlances to lay blast markers and
help
