Monster cable hdmi versus generic?

Is the 'el cheapo' cable HDMI 1.3 version? If so, then you should be able to play BD movies no sweat. For example I bought 4 Mediabridge HDMI cables from Amazon.com when setting up my home theater, most expensive was a 15' cable for $12, and they work flawlessly at 1080P.

Monster cable is way overpriced for what you get - realistically it should be priced maybe $5 more than the cheapo cable, not 10x more expensive. After all, these are digital signals so don't let the salesman babblespeak about 'signal degradation', yadda-yadda.
