Well, I've finally got pics of the Terminators, the converted Captain
and Chaplain, and their ride (a LR Crusader) online. These are part
of my dad's army, but since he's unable to paint due to his eyes, I've
been working on his figures, so I can claim full credit (and he has no
problem telling people at the shops). Let me know what you guys
think.

Hey Erik,
A great effect for blue-themed metallics is to paint bolt-gun metal (or
whatever), then ink blue all over. This gives it a cold steel/gun blued
effect and if done right looks awesome. I have an Empire army who're
tied together with blue, and this effect helps tie in the armored
knights extremely effectively.

I know the effect, I've used it on some models and it looks awesome!
It's a shame the pictures didn't turn out as well as I thought, it
kills the highlighting on the metal (and the Chappy's head). I wanted
to keep the Captain that color because it matched the rest of the army
(think Silver Skulls for the basics, but a lot of modification).

Get a small table lamp to shine on the figs, and turn off the camera flash.
The lighting should be much more subdued and the pics should look less
noisy, and detail won't get obscured in the glare. I tend to then use the
Photoshop auto levels as it almost always improves the picture slightly.

It's the bloody flash that's the problem! I used a lamp with GW
Reveal bulbs (blue-light) and directed them away from the figures.
But my dad insists on using the macro setting, which automatically
turns on the flash. Maybe I can find the manual to the camera and
figure out how to turn off the flash on macro.

Yeah, flash + macro = bad!
My PowerShot S1 has 3 flash settings in all modes (forced, auto, and off) so
I don't have that problem. It doesn't have a macro mode, but at 8cm from the
object it does a pretty good job (and flash at close range is bad as you
end up with a shadow due to the long lens) ... and if I need anything
closer, then I have a Raynox macro filter that gets in real close (nothing
like a marine head filling most of the photo frame, but I need to dust my
figs off next time).

Why blue terminators out of a Black Templars Land Raider?
