My Mrs has one of the very first Asus EeePCs, but it is now so battered that every time she switches it on she is surprised it still works.
I am tempted to replace it with one of the HP Mini 311 laptops which has the ION chipset. It has good reviews and a large screen for a netbook.
My Mrs only uses the laptop to browse the internet and watch youtube videos although my son will no doubt use it to play flash games, which currently run slowly on the Asus. I heard the ION chip might accelerate the flash in a forthcoming release from adobe, perhaps support is there for it already.
Is this a good choice, what other options should I consider?
ION is definitely something that I would look at for a netbook. It is supposed to be far better than the Intel GMA 500/950 that is found on most of them. There aren't many ION based Netbooks out yet, so the HP is pretty expensive as it goes. My other choice would have been the Dell Mini, I've had good luck with Dell in the past and I like the way it looks.
