Display Settings in WinXP with Nvidia Drivers

I just switched from win98 to winXP Pro about a month ago. I've set up my computer to be more secure by doing the whole make separate accounts for different users. Anyway, I have a Geforce2 GTS, for which i installed the latest Nvidia detonator drivers that i could get from their site that are winXP compatible.

Here's my problem. The desktop was too dark, so i had to go to the advanced settings to get to Nvidia's driver's configuration & adjust the brightness, contrast, and gamma settings so that i could actually play games and watch DVDs. I did this as the admin. This is all good and everything, except when the following happens. I allow a person who i gave an account on my computer to boot it. When they log on under their account name, the desktop is as dark as it was in the beginning without my adjustments. And, as a limited end user, that person cannot access the Nvidia driver configuration tool to set their desktop. However, when i log on as the admin, the desktop changes over to the settings i made and is bright again. If i log off, and allow the limited end user to log on, the desktop remains bright, that is, until they have to reboot, in which case, the desktop will remain too dark until i log on as admin again and then log off.

Does anybody know a way for me to set the display settings so that it applies to all users, that way i dont have to log on as admin everytime they reboot? Or is there a way for me to log on to each limited account, open the driver configuration tool, and adjust the settings for each user?

You're welcome! I ran across the site last night, and I thought of your post while I was there. I hadn't forgotten ... I was just delayed.

See ya!

DRAT! :(

thanks Toejam for the recommendation, but i replied to the board too soon.

the desktop utility only allows the desktop resolution and color depth to be adjusted, but not the brightness, gamma, or contrast. So im still stuck with the same problem: my screen being too dark. im beginning to think it is a problem with the nvidia driver because when i think about it, these settings are part of the color correction in their drivers and not a standard part of the advanced tab in windows. they work specifically to fine tune features of the geforce cards (brightness in addition to other hardware options like antialiasing, clock speed, agp speed, etc), something that windows doesn't control.

ideally, the settings that i adjust as the admin, since they affect the hardware, should port over to every user account. I mean, i expect that the antialiasing and rendering options that i set should also affect the other users usage of the video card since they dont have access to the settings. or if i install motherboard drivers or sound card drivers, they better not be user specific. the same should go with the color correction.

so. i am assuming that im not going to find anything in user or computer policy that allows other users to modify driver settings. .. this is a security feature of winxp to keep the system from being messed with by unauthorized users. i suspect there might be a registry setting for nvidia's drivers that could fix this, but im not good at interpreting registry entries. only other thing i can think of is trying one of the tweak programs for geforce overclocking. Could that have a setting for brightness?

If anyone else has any ideas, please help me.

thanks

I use RivaTuner for tweaking GeForce cards. It has brightness, gamma, and contrast controls, with an option to apply the settings at startup. Maybe it'll do the trick.
