I have an Dell Inspiron 6000 with a 40GB drive on it. I am running XP Pro. There are currently three partitions on the drive.
File System - Config - Capacity - Free
1)FAT - ESIA - 55MB - 48MB
2)FAT32 - Unknown - 3.39GB - 299MB
3)C NTFS - System - 33.8GB - 27.76GB

I would like to know what is using the first two partitions. I would like to understand this because I am getting ready to repartition my drive to resize so I can add two additional partition so I can use Virtual PC. The new drives will be about 4GB each.

Is Partition Magic a good way to do this? Can I use the trial version to do this? Or is there a better way for me to repartition my drive? I would rather not have to format and start over.

Thanks you for your help.

1 and 2 may be the restore disk provisions and the FAT partition, set up to be run as Ghost clone restore, similar to a restoration of a laptop, but thats just a guess since I've never been Delled!

As long as the trial version of Partition Magic is fully functional during the trial time period, then it will do whatever you need to do.

Those 2 partitions are used by Dell - they store system recovery data.

No idea about the trial version of partition magic.

I agree. R-Drive Image is what I use for imaging.

The trial version of Partition Magic WAS NOT fully functional when I tried it...

If its under warranty, I would be concerned about screwing with the way the HD is setup. Just a thought, but Hd's are dirt cheap if you look around. You may consider buying a seperate one. I buy HDs all the time $40 to $50 and sometimes get a SATA for that price.
