Free error 2908 fix

I am trying to load two programs on a "Dell Inspiron 8100" laptop that is running "Windows XP SP 3" and when I try to load two different programs, I get a "2908 error" message and the program stops loading.

I understand that this error has something to do with the "Windows Regestrey" program it's self and I need to fix something in the program.
My problem is that I live on a very limited income from Social Security and can not afford all the repair programs that want anywhere from $69.95 to $59.95 to fix my computer.

Is there any FREE programs out there that will help me repair this problem so I can get this laptop going so I can use it for what I need it to do?
