SATA Array

I want to make an SATA array of disks as storage for my HD-DVR. I've been looking for someone who has done something similar but have yet to find anything substantial. I have a Scientific Atlanta 8300hD-DVR with one SATA port. From what I've read, I'd have to either use an SATA port multiplier or a multi-bay disk enclosure. Are there other ways to do it? I'm looking for the cheapest solution.
