Hey,
I'm planning on building a new pc and was wondering what would be a good memory (2x512) for P5WD2 Premium mobo in the price range somewhere between $200 and $300.
So far here's the specs I'm looking at:

P5WD2 Premium
P4 650 (3.4g 800FSB EMT64)
Thermaltake Silent Purepower 680W

I also still didn't choose video and HDs, but it's gonna be decided later. What I'm concerned right now is memory. I've read lots of posts saying that DDR400 dual channel is a good pick but I still can't understand why not to get DDR2? And what is the difference between DDR and DDR2?
Also what would be a good choice if I choose to overclock this system a little bit.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thx.

Well by good I mean maybe to try and squiz out at least 900-950 out of FSB800.
The computer is going to be used for games, video/audio and graphics editing, 3D rendering (max, maya).

DDR2 is the next generation of memory. Staying within the standard specifications, it clocks higher than DDR, but has higher latencies. The modules aren't intechangable, so your mobo is either DDR or DDR2 (exception: some Intel 915-based boards can use either).

Imagine you have a budget of up to $300 for 1GB of memory. What would be your choice for my kind of system?

I suppose I will need 120mm zalman for OCing? Or is there something better with the same performance but quieter?
30Db is pretty noisy. I was looking to get maybe hyper 48 which is 16Db? or is this a bad idea?

XP-90 is about as good as the 120mm Zalman, and the XP-120 is even better. You get to choose your own fan (they come without fans but need one), so you can decide how quiet it gets to be. I don't have direct experience with them, but people here keep saying Panaflow makes a good 120mm fan that's nice and quiet (there are others of course).

It doesnt beat the 8000UL but by a few points in bandwidth. Some reveiws a slightly wider gap, but ive been able to close that gap to almost dead even. Im talking strictly bandwidth and not frequency of course.

The new Mushkin 6400 will give a noticeable bandwidth increase in benchmarks. The last time I checked it was on backorder everywhere.

I know that Fugger has verfied at 5.6Ghz or FSB around 400 1:1 4-3-2-4"Wierd timings" He broke 10K in SiSandra and the score scaled so I dont doubt it being legit. Sandra is know for spitting out some crazy high scores but like I said, his looked good and they scaled. He did that with 4 sticks!
