My cd rom tries to read cd but get error message

Between last night (Oct 4th) and today (Oct 5th) My cd rom or Sims 2 Launcher isn't working. It tries to auto run without much success and then when I click on the Sims 2 Launcher, my cd rom will tell that a disk is not inserted into cd/dvd rom or I get get an error message that simply says Sims 2 and a Red X. Have un-installed Mansion & Garden pack then re-installed hoping that would resolve the issue...any ideas?????

could have damaged hi/low filter errors in the registry. good cd rom hi low filter repair and go into the registry and delete the old ones and reboot.

Yeah, we put my fiance's Bejeweled game into the drive and it wanted to install the game, so the rom must be working. We don't know if it's a bad cd game or maybe a bad command. I never removed the CD from the drive the next day,so we're wondering what happened to the cd from the night before. I checked for the Hi & Low filters in the registry,but there weren't any...
