Hi everyone,

You know that dumb "new folder" that has found its way in the version of XP,
the one on the root drive ? Well apparently it contains an infinite loop of
the root drive information in itself as well as a copy of itself. So, my c:
drive contains a "program files folder,a windows folder, an mp3 folder etc...
and of course a new folder ...... folder" Inside this new folder is
everything I just spat out and in THAT new folder has everything I just spat
out and so on and so on. Like this, c:\New Folder\New Folder\New Folder\New
Folder\New Folder\New Folder\New Folder ..... until 99 charaters are reached
of whatever XP's limit is. In each new folder is the contents of my hard
drive, like "new folder" = C:\ The weird thing is that this info doesn't take
up extra space but if you delete anything in this "new folder" and any "new
folder" thereafter it deletes it off the root drive. Its like they are
linked. So if it doesn't take up space, whats the problem? How about 500,000+
files instead of 30,000 to scan for viruses and adware and whatever else I'd
like to scan for because these programs search everything. Now, theres a
problem, because I don't have 2 hours per program to set aside for scans. Any
ideas what is going on?
Regards
Chris

No, I don't.

Yes. You or someone in your household made a mistake and copied
everything on the drive into a New Folder, probably thinking this was a
good way to "backup" the hard drive. You might try a System Restore to
before this happened. Otherwise, you might be able to get rid of the
"New Folder" mess by deleting from outside the operating system with
something like ERD Commander (very expensive) or a Bart's PE.

If that is beyond your skills (and there is no shame in admitting that),
take the machine to a professional computer repair shop (not your local
equivalent of BigStoreUSA) and have them fix it.
