No audio after Windoze update

Windows Update zapped my audio a few days ago as well as video. Got the video back by re-installing a former driver. However, have not been able to restore system audio. XP Pro on a homemade system with Creative Audigy 2 zs. Tech support said uninstall all drivers, unplug card, reboot, shut down, re-plug card, restart and install from original CD...didn't work. Then they said do the same thing, but use a drivers install file from their website...didn't work. I can do a test with their software that plays a sound file, but the system has no sound...not even the speaker icon. Any suggestions?

u may want to check the driver manager

if not, try running audio with integrated audio first if u have one that is.

Yes, it has integrated audio, but it won't bring up the system audio, i.e. the speaker icon control, yet it says it is "working properly" in device mgr.

is it possible to uninstall the windows update and see if it works ?
