I just recently bought a HTPC (asrock ion 330 bluray). When it works I'm fine, but here's some issues I hope someone here can help me with. I'm using windows 7 with the media center that's built in. It's hooked up to my 37" Visio HDTV with 120hz.

(it's here fyi:

1. When I play a dvd, I see some white flickering lines across the top. Only when playing dvds. other videos played from files, or from netflix streams do not show these lines

2. How I expected the asrock to work w/ the remote was that I could press the power to put it on sleep or standby. It seems to standby or sleep (can't figure out which) but the fan still runs. I want the fan to turn off. Is there a way that I put it on stand by and have the fan off?

3. Sometimes there's lags or unresponsiveness with the buttons from the remote. I thought it would be easy, where I could just press press power and it would instantly turn on. It doesn't. Then I press the power button on the box itself, then it powers off - frustrating. So it was on, but the TV was stating that there was no data being received from the attached HDMI connection. I have to attach a keyboard and press control alt delete or randomly bang at the keyboard to get it to wake up.

4. The range of the remote seems too short - it's the one that came w/ the unit. I'm about 10 feet away, and I replaced the battery. It's a hit and miss with the buttons.

I'm really getting frustrated and wondering if I should have bought a mac mini instead.

I thought this would be easy enough for me and even easy enough for my wife. I'm pretty techy, but this thing is really annoying me.

1. If you are playing the DVD through your computer, and not a DVD player, it might not be able to stretch the screen enough to fill the screen so to say. See if there are any updates for the DVD drive and Media Center.

2. That is up to the manufacturer regarding the fan. When its put on standby for a long period of time, does the fan stop? or does it continue to run for hours after putting it on standby (it could just be that the fan is cooling the system down before it goes into a full standby)

3. The lagging could be due to running the system through your computer. Computers are very complex, and sometimes the software that people run on certain machines, bring it to the limits of the computers capabilities.

4. The range is completely up to the manufacturer. Something that might help is placing the receiver/player/computer (whichever the remote controls) in a more visible place. Because these sensors are probably Infared Receivers, they work based on line of sight. If the remote cant see the machine its pointing to, it probably cant send data to it.

Hope this helps!

I use XBMC as my media centre software of choice. I don't use the built in Optical drive (yet) as I use ripped DVD or other source files . I am also using 2 x 500Gb drives in RAID 0.
Google ASROCK 330 ION + XBMC + Windows 7. You will find a mass of people using XBMC along with the remote.
Also make sure you are up to date with the ASROCK 330 ION drivers and software utilities.
