Have to shutdown/restart twice...

Hey everyone. I'm having trouble with shutdown and restart. Every time I go
to restart or shutdown my computer from the start menu. I hear the chime and
nothing happens. Well.. something does happen. After I try to
shutdown/restart the first time I go to my tasklist and see that 10+
processes have been eliminated. I go to restart/shutdown again, and it
works. What exactly is going on? I don't mind that my computer has 10 less
tasks and everything seems to be fully functional, but this is one of those
things that I feel that if I get to the bottom of it, it could do me some
good. =)
