I've been trying to play files with the .mid extension and I can't hear them.
The files go through the process as if they are playing but no sound is
heard. I've tried several of these files and they all do the same. It doesn't
make any differece as to what program I'm using. I've tried Winamp the newest
version, Windows Media Player 9 and 10, and Real Player and they all do the
same. All other types of sound files work great. I don't have this problem
with the wav, ra, mp3, etc. just .mid. I've gone to Microsoft and did a
search for this problem but couldn't find anything there. I've checked the
settings in the Volume control and the MIDI SYTH settings are also fine and
it isn't muted. Can someone give me some ideas as to what is causing this and
how to repair it? Thanks! Jones

Look in Control Panel|SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICES, under the AUDIO tab.
In the MIDI MUSIC PLAYBACK box, click the arrow and choose a MIDI default
device other than the one shown. Try several.
