basically, what's the difference. I'm a desktop user, but I'm looking to purchase a laptop for my son for the holidays. It would be used primarily for internet connection and music. What's the difference between laptop, notebook and netbook. How much memory do you think is adequate? Any other help.
Notebook and laptop are one in the same; they mean the same thing. "Notebook" is technically the correct term, since the machines aren't actually designed for use on your lap.
A Netbook is a tiny laptop (under 12" ) that is designed to view web pages..and that's about it. You can do some other basic things, like word processing and listening to music, but I wouldn't recommend much more. They're extremely low-power (in terms of electricity and computing power), but they're also pretty darn cheap.
