Hi all,
My system specs are: A7N8X Deluxe, AMD 2500+ CPU, 1 GB OCZ Dual Channel PC3200 RAM, ATI
9600 XT Video, WD 160 GB SATA HD. I recently had a hard disk failure and
replaced it. In doing so, I happened to be in the bios and noticed that the
voice thingy on bootup was turned off so I turned it on. Now that it's on,
it is occasionally reporting "Memory failed during bootup" but the pc boots
fine and everything works ok. The memory always shows up as the right amount
as well. As I was in the process of setting up this new hd, I believe that
it tends to happen after I've just installed new software but I'm not
positive of this.
I suppose the logical conclusion is that there is something wrong with the
memory but it passes Memtest ok and the pc is otherwise running fine. I don't think I would have even noticed it without the announcement by the bios. Could it be an issue with the timing perhaps?
Right now the settings in the bios are:
Memory Frequency - By Speed
Resulting Frequency - 200 Mhz
Memory Timings - Optimal

Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks
Gary

It's most likely not the memory modules.

System resources use areas of memory to keep track of programs. Many of the 'memory failure errors' are the result of a driver software conflict.

When you changed that voice thingy you may have triggered something that is not functioning properly in your OS.

Did your problem occur immediately after hard disk installation? Or only when you changed a setting in the BIOS?

Concerned about the memory? I say run Windows Memory Diagnostic, on the advanced test. And also Memtest86+. See what those tell you. Also check if the RAm is being controlled by SPD, or if you have to change some timings on the RAM, maybe loosen them up a little.

Those motherboards are POS. I would get that same message every time I restarted the PC. I went through two of those before I finally learned my lesson and switched to MSI. They would both give me random video corruption. If you get the same problem look at the MB before you start pointing fingers at the Vid Card. As for the lady in the PC who says you failed a memory test, I wouldnt worry about it unless you start having stability issues.

Agree. The entire A7N8X series has many problems.

I must have been the lucky one to have got a reliable board (when i did have 1, never a problem, overclocked or otherwise)

Trust me I know what I'm doing... ooops, grab the cat...
