I have a compaq presario 1200 laptop. The tape that goes between the unit itself and the screen is partially broken. I get half a picture on the screen.Can it be fixed or do I have to replace the screen

Broken as in ripped? You'll probably have to replace it, though I've been successful on 2 different occasions at manufacturing small ribbon cables like that.
