if the mic is a condensor type.. maybe the electret rod is cracked and not sending the voltage normally.

if the mic is an electrect condensor type.. maybe the electret rod is cracked, or maybe the 'permanently electrified' rod has lost it's energy.
they also say the rods are polarized like a magnet.
maybe the polarity has become weak or changed some.

though, maybe the mic is good and the mic preamp is bad.
or
maybe both of those are good and the wireless receiver is bad.
if there is wireless interference, i dont see why it wouldnt cause a crackling noise.
the error is dependant of the error resilience used by the wireless system.

it might be a stretch.. but one error might make one type of noise, and another error might cause a different problem.
could be the frequency of the interference that changes the error type.
maybe the magnitude of the interference does it.

those are my rationale guesses.
