Use PC2700 for PC2100 RAM???

I've got an older ABIT mobo that takes PC 2100 184 pin SDRAM.
I want to add 512mb RAM to the existing 256mb SDRAM to have 768mb RAM. If I buy PC 2700 RAM will that work also? Or, am I just wasting my money as the PC 2700 RAM will run only as fast as the PC 2100 RAM available at the time I bought that mobo?

Due to availability, PC2700 should be cheaper than PC2100. You can put them together, but all your RAM has to run the same speed.
