When the power and Fn buttons are pressed, the power LED comes on and 1 second later all three lock LEDs flash once and then all LEDs go out as if there is no power. Does anyone know what type of failure this is?

Is the machine beeping at all? If so, how many?

There is no beeping and no fan or hard drive noise.
