I just switched to a laptop and wondering is it possible to connect my old sata drives to my laptop since most external cases i see uses IDE thanks
There is a AMS DS3 DS-2316SU2BK Aluminum 3.5" SATA to USB2.0 External Enclosure at newegg.
is there anything special about this enclosure? I noticed some reviews saying some enclosures have issues being recognized. is there any really awesome enclosures?
*bump* is there any external casing that is highly recommended for 3.5" sata harddrives? thanks
Your probably won't be able to find anyone with first hand experience with SATA to USB enclosures. There are a lot of high quality enclosures for IDE and IDE is cheaper than SATA, so there is not much demand. I could only find one enclosure. There are simply more spare PATA IDE drives floating arround than there are SATA IDE drives.
I know that too. But the issue is I am moving to a laptop and my old desktop has 2 sata harddrives in it. is there any site that deals with this or whatsoever? -thanks
*bump Does anyone have any special recommendation in manufacturer for external enclosures?
You could always use a SATA to IDE adapter, BUT ONLY IF THERES ENOUGH ROOM INSIDE THE ENCLOSURE, which there probably isn't. AMD XP 3200+ / Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe / Corsair XMS PC3200 1024mb LLC2 / ATI X850 Pro / SoundBlaster X-FI / 2 Seagate SATA 7200rpm/8mb / Plextor PX-716A DVDRW
and those adapters are often the same price as an average enclosure do I hear more constructive comments?
