Razer Pihrana Recording of Sound

bought a razer pihrana at least a month ago now
provides really good audio
but gives a lot of trouble recording and sending audio through games and windows messenger live
it has worked for both on at least 3 seperate occasions

I run windows vista premium 64 bit on a Zotac nForce 790i Supreme DDR3-2000
with Realtec High Definition Audio

I've tried the headset in my older computer which is 32 bit windows
I only tested the headset in windows live messenger and it worked pretty much straight away

I want to know if I can simply just get different sound drivers for my computer
obviously this might be a problem with the inputs of my computer (which i built myself)
but I'd rather try something that doesn't include having to disassemble my computer
