Hi All, I'm in the market for a d/l dvd burner, been reading the various reviews for HP, Sony, a couple others. Seems they are not meeting potential - not fast enough. Want to write TIVO'd -In Demand Events (paid media)-- two questions am i going to run into copy write problems and 2. should I wait for the next generation to get better speed or is a unit out there folks recommend? thx, cj

my recommendation. I honestly think you should wait alittle longer before you blow money on one of these, when probley soon enough the price's will drop and more manufacturers will put more of these drives on the market.

What are you gonna be burning with these DL burners? just data? or your gonna be backing up DVDs? :)

Burners cost $40. Why wait if he needs one? There's always something new around the corner.

well he didn't really specify which burner he was looking for wether it was -R/ +R.... so the drive i was implying was the 100$ NEC that does both in DL..

but yea there are like the 40$ liteON's and aOpens that do -R in DL

You sure knew that the newer Plextor 740 will be powered by a BenQ mechanism... The same that is in the BenQ dw1640?

And that the only difference will be in the firmware, in which, the BenQ might have an edge with their feature and burn quality?

And that the Plextor could be flashed with BenQ firmware to improve write quality?

No, Plextor dont rule that much. Getting a nice benq drive for 40$ will be more than adequate for all the usage planned..

you can get the NEC for under $40 here with free shipping, or I would try NewEgg for the low $40s + a few bucks shipping.

The Plextor is also nice you can get it from the mid to high $60s at Buy, or low $70's at NewEgg.
