Configuring MS 1690 Metrologic scanner

I am in the process of configuring metrologic MS1690 bar code reader to scan 2D Barcodes. But when I open for example a notepad and scan, the scanner reads all data but invokes other programs like printers, and any program that may be open on the computer.I fail completely to capture just the portion of the information on barcode. For 1D Barcode i have nn such problem.
