I have an older HP laptop and I am curious which will run better on it, Windows XP (which it came with) or Windows 8. Don't worry about things like the UI and what not, I'm ok with the UI on both, just on a pure hardware/software level, which will run faster on my laptop?

Here are the specs:
Core Duo 2.0Ghz
2GB RAM
nVidia 7400 GO
150GB 7400 RPM HDD

If you can get drivers for it. I have an acer with an AMD dual core, upped it from the 1gb of ram to 3, it even runs Vista pretty well. That said, XP may be decent, but will be exiting support in 2014. If you are going to buy one or the other, Windows 8 when it ships out.

If you look though, you ought to have a Windows COA sticker for Vista, Windows 7, etc. If you have that, and an OEM cd, you should be able to install whatever Windows version your machine is licensed for.

Stick with XP you will get petter performance and battery life from it than any of the newer Windows.

Windows 8 will run fine on the PC, it meets the minimum requirements of Windows 8 Pro.

I recommend you get it, i love it!
