My specs are good, atleast i think they are. This is a notebook by the way. The specs are : Intel Core i7 920XM 2.0GHz (3.2GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB Cache) 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz 2 x 4096MB 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M 250GB SATAII 7,200RPM 15.6-inch Wide FHD 1920x1080 (1080p) WLED Slot-Loading Dual Layer Blu-ray Burner (BR-R, DVD -RW, CD-RW) Windows 7 Ultimate 64x But, while trying to play CoD4/5/6 on the highest settings, it runs beautifully and flawlessly some times, yet like utter crap other times. I have no idea why and im just curious if anyone could shed some light onto this situation for me? the i7 core runs at about 58c(lowest) to 65c(highest) while idiling. So really how can i lower that a bit more, and is there anything else that may cause the game performance to jerk around like that?
It sounds like it could be getting hot, hence leading to bad gaming performance. Do you play games while it is sitting on your lap or while sitting on a desk? If you want to bring your temps down, look into a notebook cooler of sorts. I'd recommend Thermaltake. If that is out of your price range right now, simply use a good sized hard cover book to add air flow.
I use a zalman cooler, but if you recomend that ill take a look into it. I usually play on a flat surface like a desk though. and other games, like asassins creed, mass effect and DA: O play just fine on their highest settings.
You could have other tasks running in the background like the disk defragmenter, Antivirus running a scheduled scan, Windows creating a new restore point, any number of things happening in the background can really hurt your game's perfromance on a laptop. Your temps are hotter than I would like to see, that is for sure.
