Is $8950 high for a mylared Funhouse on Mr. Pinball?

At first I was thinking it was OK, and then remembered what happens to
the mylar on these games. When the one went for over $5K on E-Bay last
year was it a DP?

Realize this game is essentially new, but it seems there are a lot of
guys around here that can make 'em new again ;-)

I was actually trying to buy this game from the original seller before
he ended the auction. Now wondering if it was a good thing I didn't get
this game??? Actually really want to see opinions of the experienced
RGP'ers on this subject!

There isn't a pinball machine in existence that's worth anywhere
*close* to $9K to me. I'm not casting dispersions on this guy's FH or
anything, but when two NIB Sterns are available for a *good* bit *less*
than that amount, all-time classic or not, it just ain't gonna happen.

BBB # 129. I like Rudy and have never played BBB so I can't say about
the "2X". Guess I would have to take your word on it.

I definitely agree with you on PIMP!!! I have passed a lot of fair
deals on to RGP'ers when I don't have the room. Think this guy is
related to Mooky???

Yeah, c'mon Aron, whats up with that? You and I both told Gene we'd
buy the game if he made it.. why the cold feet 5 years later?? ;)

You'll be welcome to play mine, might even put it on free play for ya..
nahh! :)

No- that one was factory mylar with some bubbling- it was a year ago last
November if I recall. $5600 (eBay).

Well, "making" one new again isn't cheap nor free- there's really not a
"lot" of guys that are willing/able to do it on a game that isn't their own.
A lot of people don't think about this or even come close to realizing what
has to go into a game to "make it new" again. TONS of time, lots of
expensive and hard-to-find parts often needed, and of course a considerable
degree of skill/experience is helpful if you want a good job/quality as the
end result. And how "perfect" you want it to be, and how extensive you want
the game gone through (just the playfield restored, or the cabinet
overhauled, coin door, electronics, etc?)

Funhouse is a very mechanically-complicated and intensive game and usually
has a lot of parts that are beat to a pulp and need a lot of work to renew,
or leg work and cash to find and replace. With the type of full restoration
we do on the games we sell, this one is easily a 70 to 80 hour overhaul. If
you figure 70 hours at a shop service rate of $45 per hour, that's $3150
just in labor alone. Then add in the parts costs after that. And sales tax.
Or shipipng costs back-and-forth if you're sending the game out-of-state to
have the work done.

So that $2200 "as-is" Funhouse from eBay turns into a $5k-$6k+ game after
several weeks of hard work and parts rounding up, etc.

Like the old Fram Oil Filter ad: "You can pay me now, or pay me later". Buy
one cheap and pay as you go to fix it up, or belly-up and pay a premium
price right at the start to get one all finished and done- ready to play.

And price doesn't always dictate exactly what you're getting either- doesn't
always truly reflect the actual condition of the game, nor the quality of
the work/parts that went into it. Anyone can put any kind of price they
want on anything in any condition- it's up to the buyer to do the "homework"
and decide if it's a fair shake or not- know what you're getting- or what
you should be getting for the price- if you're really getting what you're
paying for, or just becoming another victim of a price-gouging seller.
Buyer beware.

If you want something to compare to, take a look at the last Funhouse we
restored and sold a few months back- pictures are still posted on our site-
www.actionpinball.com May give you a good idea about what kind of work goes
(or should go) into a proper overhaul on this game and what you may want to
look for to be sure the game is really overhauled right and that you're
really getting what you're paying for.

There's $500 Mercedes and there's $50,000 Mercedes. Price doesn't always
reflect what you are getting. Just do your homework and make sure you're
really getting what you're paying for.

considering fh is AT LEAST 2x as fun as bbb, i would say this one is
on the money. it is just too bad someone bought it just to PIMP it the
following week. :-(

Someone will buy it for that, or close to that, guaranteed.

Yes, it is the same game. Eric convinced me to end the auction early
because he desperately
needed the machine for a gift for the Holiday weekend. At his asking
price he is making a TON of money. That is alright he owns it, just the
BS story he used bothers me. I would rather of sold it to someone that
really wanted the machine.

I'm glad you chimed in George -- it makes my decision to pass easier. Wish
you would have left it on eBay to see how far it would go -- I think it's
easier to pay silly money on eBay where at least you know there is a
next-highest bidder and it's a price that the market dictates.

Thanks for your comments.

I know this isn't the MENSA board...but the word you are looking for is
ASPERSIONS...if you don't know what the word means, you probably
shouldn't use it...especially big words you have no idea about.

Mea culpa. I had never actually seen the word/phrase spelled out
before, and was actually relying on phonetics for spelling, there. You
caught me, and I plead guilty, but you must admit that the phrase "cast
aspersions" when said relatively quickly actually does sound like "cast
dispersions," even though no such word exists.

Wise choice, Randy. I urge all potential buyers to steer clear of this
deal. I smell a profiteering rat.

I think there are words and phrases that we all have misconceptions
about, although we know the meaning and use them correctly, as was the
case when boagman correctly used the phrase "cast dispersions." The
nasty post was not justified.

When I was a kid and we played stickball on the streets of Brooklyn,
N.Y., we called the ball a "Spaldeen." It wasn't until later in life I
came to realize it was actually the brand name "Spalding."

I still remember someone who complained to me, about thirty years ago,
that a judgment creditor had "detached" his salary. I wasn't about to
correct him and tell him not to use a word if he couldn't use it right,
since having his salary attached was bad enough and I sure knew what he
meant.

And my wife and I had a friend who was nice enough not to describe
someone as "fat," so she would use the word she thought to be correct
of, "Obeast" in place of "Obese." She would also use the phrase she
thought was correct for describing mental deterioration of old age as,
"Old Timer's Disease" in place "Alzheimer's Disease." We never
corrected her there either since we knew what she meant and we never
said she should not use a word or phrase if she couldn't say (or spell)
it correctly. Actually my wife and I found it amusing and although she
has since passed away, we still smile with fond memories of her when
those words or phrases come up in our conversations with others.

While I see no harm in *politely* informing someone of their
misconception as to a word or phrase, I see no purpose in being rude,
insulting or offensive about it. That only brings about resentment in
place of appreciation. Takemedeep owes boagman an apology.
