hi, sorry complete idiots question, but can i put a 256mb sdram pc100 in with a exsisting 128mb or does it have to be double the amount. thanks

is your other stick pc100 as well or pc133? it will run with pc133 but it will cause system instability.

You can mix sizes all you want. Some OEM systems have weird issues with certain modules, but it's always worth a try.

Best to make sure the modules both have the same chip configuration and latency rating (CL2 or CL3).

128MB built using (8Mx16) chips, for example, will most likely not work with a 256MB module built using (32Mx8) chips.

The most popular chip configuration for both 256MB and 128MB SDRAM modules is (16Mx8).
