Tritton AX PC Pro Mic doesn't work

My friend has two pairs of Tritton AX PC Pro headsets. He told me neither of the mics worked, and asked me if I could try to fix them. The problem is, I have no idea what's going on. I opened up the ear cup that houses the mic input, and I looked to make sure the detachable mic makes contact with everything, and it does. So that was good, I looked to make sure everything in the in-line controller was soldered, and they were. Now, what gets me is that even though it doesn't pick up my voice, it DOES pick up the popping you'd get when plugging in any 3.5mm jack.

So I can hear the putting-the-mic-in popping, and the mic mute switch popping. I just can't get my voice to pick up.

Same problem. I've been reading a lot and from my understanding it's just the detachable mic that's defective. Email support to get replacements. However, support is very slow. I'm trying to find my damn serial number. I don't know how to open the side panels without breaking them. I suspect that's where the SN is.
