There is a big difference between corruption & physical damage
Most major vendors have a Windows diagnostic program. The Western Digital version works on other brands.
If there is physical damage continued use may cause more damage and prevent experts recovering data.
once you know if physical damage or corruption ask for more advice
chkdsk may work (corruption)
Testdisk + PhotoRec is are well known freeware programs for recovery of data caused by corruption or physical damage
but practice with a good disk so you know what you are doing before trying to repair faulty or corrupt disk
