I'm looking to buy a new monitor to replace my dying 19" CRT for gaming.

After seeing the LG's in the store, I like them the best as far as price/quality go. I just have a question on resolutions.

The LG 20" at NewEgg is 1600*900 native. Is this an odd resolution and will I have trouble finding games that support it and be stuck playing at lower resolutions or non 16:9 res'?

I was looking on the widescreen gaming forum and they don't seem to mention it as a popular screen res.

NewEgg did have the 19" LG that is 1440*900, I guess its 16:10, but its an extra 10 bucks more. Would I be better off with the 19"?

I wanted something for under $160 ish. I wish I could just get the 22" and call it a day, but it's $220, way over what I can spend.

If you can stretch your budget a bit, I'd get this. It's 1680x1050, 20", and decent quality for $179:

This one's a good deal too - 21.5", 1920x1080, $169:

Otherwise, the 1600x900 doesn't seem too bad. I'd probably get it given the choice between the two you posted.

Thanks for the reply,

I didn't want to play half my games in pillar box, so I went for the 16:10. I just bought the 22" LG from newegg. I told the other guys I'd have to eat Top Ramen a couple weeks to cover the extra cost, but it'll be worth it I think.

NewEgg was awesome again, canceling my order with no questions asked.

The 1920*1080 is too high for me, I buy last years top of the line card every year. I probably won't get a gtx295 until a new series comes out. Its fun being poor

22" I ordered btw.

That should be a good one. Personally, I'd always go for the higher res - I like how games look at a higher res, even if I have to turn down the eyecandy a bit (though I don't need to on my current system, I did have to on my older setup). Even so, the 1680x1050 is a decent number of pixels, and should do a great job.
